WHAT IS TUNING?

psychic bullshit go~

It's whatever the writers decide it is for a given plot. As such I'm so sorry but some of this may be subject to change in the future if the writers decide to clarify / add to / retcon / whatever stuff

A non exhaustive list of things under the umbrella of "Tuning": psychic powers like telepathy, mind reading, soothing distress, altering perceptions, forcing someone to tell the truth, trapping someone inside your own mind, making someone go insane, altering memories, buffing your friends in battle, linking minds together to share perceptions, and so on.

"Tuning" is using the power of the Harmony[1] to do various psychic magic things, usually to influence others' minds but it can be used on oneself as well. If you can think of some weird psychic thing someone could do to or with a mind, it can probably be done by tuning. However, Sunday is not without limitations - aside from his own stamina, Sunday's reach usually also only physically extends a short distance around him. Also, most of it requires active effort on his part; while you probably won't know if he's skimming surface thoughts or just trying to gauge your intent, you certainly will know if he's rifling around deeper or using it therapeutically to help calm you down or doing some shenanigan like, oh, forcing you to answer questions truthfully.

[1] The Harmony is a Path, which is essentially a magical manifestation of a philosophical concept. Don't worry about the specifics because they really don't matter unless you want to get into the weeds about Honkai: Star Rail's world-building. The important thing to note is just that it's a specific kind of ~space magic~ Sunday is drawing on rather than some kind of hard sci-fi version of psychic nonsense.

Anything noteworthy? Like, do they feel emotions much deeper or much more shallowly than they actually emote?

Are you okay with Sunday reading your character's surface thoughts?

Are you okay with Sunday potentially prying deeper at some point?
He will usually ask before doing this these days, and if this winds up being a thing I'm sure we'll chat about it.

Are you okay with Sunday speaking to your character telepathically?
In order for it to be two-way communication, they'll have to be close enough that Sunday trusts them enough to attune, and it only works when they're in relatively close physical proximity.

If you're cool with Sunday tuning them, is there anything you'd be interested in playing with at some point?
Therapeutically (like, having him sooth panic or dampen grief or anger) or otherwise. Sunday is unlikely to do the whole unraveling anyone's psyche thing without very good cause, but who knows what wild things might happen in the future? We can always keep things in our back pockets for later.

Can Sunday Tune your character? Absolutely! He should be able to do so with relative ease, as Jiaoqiu doesn't have anything that would interfere with it
Are you okay with Sunday sensing your character's emotions? Yes! Jiaoqiu is mentioned as having emotions that are somewhat 'frozen', so I think they'd be fairly small and hard to sense, but possible nonetheless
Are you okay with Sunday reading your character's surface thoughts? Yes! No doubt Jiaoqiu is one of those loud active thinkers, so he probably natters away about various topics at any given time
Are you okay with Sunday potentially prying deeper at some point? Yes!
Are you okay with Sunday speaking to your character telepathically? Yes!
If you're cool with Sunday tuning them, is there anything you'd be interested in playing with at some point? Jiaoqiu is most likely a Self-Annihilator, so it'd be interesting to play with the idea that that affects his thoughts and emotions somehow! Drained of some amount of colour, maybe, or just more faded in texture than others
